Born and raised in Hamilton, ON, Samantha Walkes, is an artist in Theatre and Film.  Having cut her teeth in the Arts in high school, Walkes fell in love with theatre and it grew to become second nature.  For her, it is the perfect balance of using her voice and body to tell a story.  In 2009, she attended Brock University and began her BA in English and Dramatic Arts hoping to go on to Teacher’s College but then, she was whisked away to perform for the great Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber in the Mirvish and CBC TV competition, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?  After this incredibly encounter, she auditioned for several schools in the U.K. as well as the U.S. In 2010, she was accepted into the American Musical and Dramatic Academy with a scholarship to study theatre, film, dance as well as voice. She continues to be involved in theatre and film today on the Canadian front and is the Artistic Consultant for Ripplz Effect Productions.

She finished a short run of an original musical, Kill Sister, Kill, at the International New York Fringe Festival in the summer of 2015, where the New York Times exclaimed it 'was one of the top 10 shows to see this season', from the 260+ shows entered.  She is currently working in rehearsals for her independent show, Sister Walkes, which includes music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s of all the best Disco and Motown with her sister, Candace. She also completed a weekend run with the original Broadway cast of Smokey Joe’s Café, the summer of 2016 at the Molson Canadian Studio in Hamilton, playing the role of Brenda, originally played by the very talented and late BJ Crosby. Walkes is excited to join the Shaw Festival this year, understudying for two productions, Me and My Girl and An Octoroon. She currently resides in Niagara on the Lake, ON.
